2024 student grant winner

Eve Smerczynski

Eve is currently an undergraduate in her third year at the University of South Carolina and is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Marine Science as well as a minor in Environmental Studies. Growing up on the Massachusetts coast has made her passionate about further understanding what is impacting our oceans, and applying that to impacts on society. She is eager to research how climate change has impacted the long-term copepod species composition, and hopes to pursue a graduate degree in the future.

She will be researching how climate change has impacted copepod community composition using the North Inlet Estuary Zooplankton Time Series to observe any shifts in composition since the 1980s. From this she hopes to determine trends or shifts in the community and look at impacts on species further up the trophic chain.
