My research focuses on bridging the gap between ecology and molecular biology to address critical questions in marine oceanic zooplankton, with a particular emphasis on copepods of the genus
Calanus. Building upon my initial MSc training in biological oceanography, I developed complementary molecular skills throughout my PhD and postdoctoral experiences. These skills have been
instrumental to investigate the ecology and evolution of copepods (especially the genus Calanus), pteropods, and krill. Given the pivotal role of zooplankton in marine ecosystems and their direct
impact on fisheries, understanding their ecology and population dynamics is paramount in the context of climate change. For too long, this objective has been confined to traditional ecological
methods, providing only a partial perspective. Therefore, in my research, I have integrated state-of-the-art molecular methods with environmental and ecological data to unveil a more
comprehensive picture of zooplankton ecology and evolution.
I have been involved in the World Association of Copepodologists firstly through my participation in meetings, including in San Pedro – Los Angeles in 2016, where I presented a talk and received
a student award for one of the best oral presentations. I also registered for the meeting in South Africa a few years later, that unfortunately got cancelled. In 2022, I became an official member
of WAC. During the latest ICOC conference in Hiroshima, I co-organized the Symposium on Evolutionary Dynamics (together with Grace Wyngaard).
Eager to strengthen my involvement and extend my network among copepodologists, I am very keen on serving WAC as an Executive Council Member. I have an extensive collaborative network in Norway
and Europe with shared interests for the study of copepods, which I could use to help building the community of copepodologists across the world. I also have experience organizing events and
would happily assist conference organizers in making these meetings a success. I also look forward help finding ways to improve communication among existing members and get more members involved
in the society. In general, I am ready to serve the President and WAC for whichever tasks I am competent for.
