How to Become a Member and Pay Dues

Anyone interested in any aspect of the study of Copepods is eligible for membership in the World Association of Copepodologists (WAC). Applicants wishing to become new members need fill out the application form and send it to the General Secretary (GS) via regular mail/ email, and pay the annual dues two years in advance. The Executive Council will be notified after both occurred and will then confer on those who have completed the application processes the status of a member. You can download the application form here (PDF format) or as doc file

WHY PAY DUES

It is important that members of the WAC pay their annual dues. These dues are used for funding the activities of the Association. The roles of the Executive Committee, Treasurer, Auditors, Webmaster, Editor of ‘Monoculus’ etc. are undertaken voluntarily. Nevertheless, there are activities that require money. These activities include: providing seed funding for the tri-annual conference, assistance with conference fees for members in need, providing student travel, funding special projects. Dues are payable by all members. Members who have difficulty paying dues may apply to the General Secretary for a waiver or reduction (Art. 11 of the By-laws). A new scale of dues has been set by the Executive Committee in March 2009.

Annual dues for 2009 are as follows:
1 - Students & Researchers from less economically developed countries US$20.00 *
2 - Members US $35.00 **
3 - Sponsors US $200.00 [or more] **
4 - Life time members US $1,000.00 [or more] - one time payment **

* if a member or potential member can not afford the $20.00 dues payment, he/she may request a waiver from the Executive Council (Art. 11 of the By-laws). Please inform the GS at the time of becoming a new member or contact him now to request a waiver for dues for 2 years ** WAC is a recognized by the IRS as a 501.c3 non-profit organization in the U.S.A., so all who have to pay taxes in the U.S.A. can legally deduct any contribution to the WAC, if you itemize.
